How To Install Time Navigator™ version 4.1
There are four major steps that we go through in setting up the CUBE Time Navigator™ Backup Agent on your computer. These steps depend upon your network and computer configurations.
The steps are:
- Configure your firewall/router for CUBE Backup Services.
- Download, install and configure the Time Navigator™ Agent.
- Establish network connection to the TINA backup server.
- Set-up the backup strategy and classes.
Once these steps have been successfully completed, backups will run automatically, according the backup strategy that is established.
We will need to know the following information before the installation of a Time Navigator Agent can be completed:
- Operating system and version of your computer
- Computer/Host Name of your computer
- External (WAN) routable IP address or Internet domain name
If you have not provided this information to CUBE, please do so before installing Time Navigator. You may contact us by calling CUBE Support at (250) 727-9811 ext. 32 or 37, or E-mail support@cubeglobalstorage.com.
Detailed Setup Instructions
1. Firewall / router set-up
(If you are not using a firewall, please skip this step)
You will need to configure your firewall/router to redirect backup traffic between your computer and the CUBE Backup Server and vice versa. This can be done by defining a "backup service" which allows traffic on the following TCP and UDP ports:
- TCP Port: 2525
- UDP Port: 2526
Be sure that this traffic is allowed in both directions for both ports.
Note: In order for Time Navigator Backup Services to work properly, you will require a routable IP address or Internet domain name which will uniquely identify the first computer that is to be backed up on your network.
There is a known issue with Windows 2003 already using the ports 2525 and 2526. You must ensure that the service is disabled before installing Time Navigator.
If you have any questions, please contact CUBE Support at (250) 727-9811 ext. 32 or 37, or E-mail support@cubeglobalstorage.com.
2. Install the Time Navigator Agent
To install the Time Navigator software agent on your computer, first download the appropriate ZIP file according to your Operating System from our FTP Site:
Note: If you get an error when you try to open the CUBE's FTP site using your web browser, set your browser to "passive FTP". This can be set in your web browser by going to "Tools", "Internet Options", clicking the "Advanced" tab, scrolling half way down and checking the "Use Passive FTP" option.
Now unzip/extract its contents and run the Autorun.exe program. Follow the instructions of the wizard as follows:

- Operation Type: "Installation" [NEXT]
- Geographical Area selection: Select "North America" [NEXT]

3. Establish a connection
The Time Navigator software agent on a Windows system is stored in the folder "\Program Files\Atempo\tina" (unless you changed the path in step 2.j above).
In this folder there is a subfolder called "Conf". In order to establish a connection to the CUBE Time Navigator Backup Server, you will need to add a new file called "hosts.txt" to this "Conf" subfolder. This new file must have the following line (this tells Time Navigator client on your computer where to find the backup server):
- tina01 tina01.cubeglobalstorage.com
When you get to this point, please contact CUBE Technical Support, to ensure that your connection to CUBE Online Backup Service has been properly established. Please call 1-800-661-0272, Ext 37.
4. Set-up the backup strategy and class
When you get to this step please contact your CUBE Rep and they will step you through the process of defining your backup strategy and classes (i.e. the data folders to be backed up).
Before your computer can be backed up, the backup strategy must be setup on the Time Navigator server. The backup strategy defines when and where the backups are to be done. This strategy is set-up by your CUBE Rep. There are several parameters to be defined, including what backup storage pool is to be used, the retention period of the backups, and when the automatic backups are to occur on a regular basis.
You are now ready to launch the Time Navigator Restore & Archive Manager. Log in with your user name and password to define the backup class (i.e. the folders or folders that you wish to backup).
Please refer to "How To Backup with Time Navigator 4.1" for instructions on how to define a backup class.
Once the backup class has been defined, the first full backup of your data can be launched.
